Cannabis cookies are sold under state law. There is no federal retail market. A dispensary in one state cannot ship to another. If you live in a state without legal sales, no licensed shop can sell you a cookie, and any site that offers to ship one is breaking the law.

- THC per package. The common cap is 100 mg.
- Lab report. Look for a batch number, a test date, and results for potency, pesticides, and mold.
- Ingredients and allergens. Cookies contain wheat, dairy, eggs, and nuts. Read the label.
- Dates. Baked goods hold 3 to 7 days at room temperature. Freeze for longer storage.
- License number. It should match a listing on the state regulator's site.
Pitfalls
- Gas station and smoke shop cookies. Many carry no lab test and no dose accuracy.
- Social media sellers. No license, no testing, no recourse.
- Dose guessing. Onset runs 30 to 120 minutes. Effects last 4 to 6 hours.
- Package deals. A 100 mg cookie eaten at once is 10 to 20 servings.
- Credit cards. Most shops take cash or debit. Few take credit.
- Crossing state lines. Transporting cannabis across a state line is a federal offense.

Bring a government ID. Adult-use sales require 21 and up. Medical sales allow 18 and up in some states with a card.
