The short answer
THC turns to vapor at 315°F (157°C). Most dry herb devices work between 315°F and 465°F (157°C to 240°C). Below 315°F the oven releases terpenes and little THC. Above 446°F (230°C) published lab tests report benzene in the vapor.
Cannabinoid boiling points
- THCA: 221°F to 248°F (105°C to 120°C). This is decarboxylation, not vapor. THCA loses a carboxyl group and becomes THC.
- THC: 315°F (157°C)
- CBD: 320°F to 356°F (160°C to 180°F)
- CBN: 365°F (185°C)
- CBC: 428°F (220°C)
- THCV: 428°F (220°C)
Terpene boiling points
- beta-caryophyllene: 246°F (119°C)
- pinene: 311°F (155°C)
- myrcene: 333°F (167°F)
- limonene: 349°F (176°C)
- linalool: 388°F (198°C)
Most terpenes boil below THC. A low setting keeps flavor and yields less THC per draw. A high setting yields more THC and less flavor.

Oven temperature is not herb temperature
The number on the display reads the oven, not the plant. Airflow, draw speed, load size, and grind change the temperature at the material. A packed oven heats slow. A fine grind heats fast. Cartridge and coil hardware varies more than dry herb ovens.
what temperature for thc vaporization
Steps
- Start at 315°F to 330°F.
- Wait 30 to 60 seconds after the oven hits the set point.
- Step up in 10°F to 15°F increments across one session.
- Stop at 430°F to limit benzene formation.
- Discard black material. Brown material is spent.

Benzene thresholds differ by product, device, and study design. Few published tests check consumer device sensors against lab thermometers. The numbers above are lab boiling points, not dosing advice.
