Why high humidity stalls the dry
Water leaves the plant because the air around it holds less moisture than the flower does. Raise the room RH and that gradient shrinks. At 70% RH the buds release water so grudgingly that a ten day dry stretches into three weeks, and every extra day is another chance for something to grow. Dropping the room to 45% to 55% RH keeps the gradient wide enough that moisture keeps moving out of the core.
The mold clock starts fast
Most mold species need water activity above about 0.65 to grow, and wet flower in a humid room sits right in that zone. Botrytis and powdery mildew do not need weeks. Give them 24 to 48 hours of damp, still air and you will see fuzz at the base of the buds, gray or brown patches inside dense colas, and a smell like wet laundry. Fixes that work
- Run a real dehumidifier sized to the room, not to the tent inside it. The room is what the plants breathe.
- Hold 60F to 70F. Warmer air carries more water and speeds decay. Too cold and you condense moisture right onto the buds.
- Keep airflow indirect. A fan moving air across the room beats one pointed at the hanging plants, which dries the outside too fast and locks water in the core.
- Space plants out. Crowding is the single most common mistake I see, and the cheapest one to fix.
