For most home grows in a tent, screen of green (SCROG) is the better call. You use one or two plants, weave the branches through a net, and end up with a flat canopy that catches light edge to edge. Sea of green (SOG) is the faster route: pack in many small plants, veg for a week or two, and flip. It shines when you already have clones and a high plant count limit. If convenience means least daily work, SOG wins. If convenience means fewest plants and best yield per plant, SCROG wins.

SCROG asks for patience during veg. You top once or twice, then tuck new growth under the screen every few days. That tucking is the job. The payoff is an even canopy, better light penetration, and a yield that can rival a SOG with a fraction of the plants. For a 2x4 tent, two plants under a screen can fill the space. Fewer pots means fewer reservoirs to mix, fewer chances for one plant to herm, and a simpler trim. The downside is a longer veg cycle and more hands-on training. If you travel or forget to tuck, the canopy goes uneven and you lose the main advantage.
SOG: speed and low touch, if you have clones
SOG is the convenience play when plant count is not a problem. You root clones, put them in small pots, and flip after 10 to 14 days. Each plant grows one main cola. No topping, no weaving, no screen. You water a tray, not a weave. Harvest comes weeks sooner than a SCROG from seed. The tradeoffs are real: more plants means more pots, more medium, more clones to source, and a legal plant count that many home growers cannot meet. From seed, SOG is messy because plants vary in height and stretch. From clones, it is almost plug and play.
