What shake is
Shake is the loose material that falls off cannabis flower. Trim crews cut sugar leaves. Buds rub against each other in bins and bags. The result is a mix of small flower pieces, leaf, stem fragments, and trichomes. Trichomes carry most of the THC.
Shake is not trim. Trim is leaf removed on purpose. Shops label both. Ask which one you are buying.
Advice before you buy
- Read the test label. Find the THC percentage and the harvest date. A batch tested at 12% THC is weaker than a batch at 20%. Both get sold as shake.
- Smell the bag. It should smell like the strain. A hay or basement smell means old material or poor drying.
- Look for mold. Gray fuzz, white patches, or a musty smell are reasons to walk away.
- Weigh it. One ounce is 28 grams. A 25-gram bag is short.
- Compare price per milligram of THC. A $60 ounce at 10% THC carries 2,800 mg of THC. A $100 ounce at 20% carries 5,600 mg.
