Ruderalis plants grow short, flower fast, and carry low THC. Breeders crossed them with Cannabis sativa and Cannabis indica lines to raise potency and yield. They add limits. A stressed seedling loses yield that cannot be recovered, because the clock keeps running. Topping and transplanting need care. Yield per square foot is lower than photoperiod runs in most comparisons.

Seed packs state auto or automatic plus feminized or regular. Feminized auto seeds produce female plants. Rates above 99 percent are common. Regular auto seeds produce males and females.
Federal law places hemp seed under the 2018 Farm Bill, defined as Cannabis sativa with 0.3 percent or less delta-9 THC on a dry weight basis. State rules govern cultivation, seed sales, and plant counts. Some states allow home grows; some do not. Check state statutes before buying.
