Check the law before the cart
Cannabis rules come from state law, not from a website's shipping policy. Shipping a vape cart across a state line breaks federal law. A shop that mails carts anywhere in the country is a warning sign. Licensed sellers limit sales to customers inside the state, check an ID at delivery, and cap the amount per transaction.
Adults 21 and older can buy live resin carts in states with adult-use programs. Medical patients in some states can buy at 18 with a card. Card payment is rare because cannabis is not approved by the FDA and card networks block the transactions. Expect cash, debit at the counter, or a state-approved payment app.
What live resin is
Live resin starts with cannabis that is frozen at harvest instead of dried and cured. The extraction pulls cannabinoids and monoterpenes from that fresh material. The result is a thick oil with the plant's original terpene profile. THC content in live resin carts falls between about 40% and 80% of oil weight. Distillate carts push THC higher and add terpenes back after the fact.
Parameters that matter
- License number. Search the number in your state's licensee database. The shop name on the site should match the name on the license.
- Batch lab report. Ask for the certificate of analysis (COA) with the batch ID printed on the cart box. A COA lists potency, pesticides, heavy metals, residual solvents, microbials, and mycotoxins.
- Dates. Harvest date and packaging date. Oil that sat a year loses terpenes.
- Cart size. 0.5 g and 1 g are the common sizes. Compare price per gram, not price per cart.
- Hardware. 510-thread carts fit most batteries. Proprietary carts need the brand's battery. Ceramic coils run cooler than cotton wicks.
- Voltage. 2.5 V to 3.2 V. Higher settings scorch terpenes.
- Terpene content. Total terpenes near 3% to 8% by weight show up on good COAs. A cart with no terpene data is a guess.
- Delivery window. Same-day windows in dense cities run 30 minutes to 3 hours. Rural areas can take a day.
Price ranges
In mature markets, 0.5 g live resin carts sell for $25 to $45. One gram carts run $45 to $80. Limited markets price higher. State and local cannabis taxes add 10% to 37% at checkout. Shipping is not part of the cost because licensed sellers do not ship.
Pitfalls
- A site with no license number, no physical address, and no COA.
- A lab report that lists a batch ID different from the box.
- Counterfeit boxes. Brand packaging sells in bulk online, and filled fakes follow.
- Payment to a personal account through a peer-to-peer app. Licensed shops use business accounts.
- THC percentage as the only number you read. Potency says nothing about pesticides or solvents.
- Vitamin E acetate. The CDC tied it to EVALI lung injuries, and it appeared in THC vape products from informal sources.
- Clogged carts. Store the cart upright, at room temperature, away from sun. Preheat at low voltage.
Convenience against verification
Delivery and curbside pickup save a trip. They do not change what is in the oil. A licensed retailer posts lab results and charges tax. An unlicensed site sells cheaper and skips both. The price gap buys traceability, and traceability is the reason to buy from a licensed source.
